The Story of D.S.D.A. Dynamic

Back in the spring of 2020, two passionate dancers, Zhou Zhou and Danielle, had an idea: why not create a space for individual dance styles in Delft? Inspired by the vibrant dance classes at X Sports & Culture, they gathered like-minded movers and shakers for a series of brainstorming sessions. Over the summer, this budding idea transformed into something real. By the end of August, a dynamic founding board was ready to take the stage: Pak Long Cheung (Chair), Marilotte Stemerdink (Secretary), Maxime Hoekstra (Treasurer), and Nathalja Wiersma and Evianne Moonen (Commissioners of Promotion & Media). Together, they brought their energy, creativity, and love for dance to life.

Their first challenge? Defining who they were and where they were going. With a mission to build a vibrant dance community for students in Delft, the board set some ambitious goals: choosing a name, designing a logo, and creating an unforgettable visual identity. By September 2020, Delft Student Dance Association ‘Dynamic’ officially launched on Instagram, ready to make waves in Delft’s student scene.

The 2020-2021 academic year became Dynamic’s “pilot season,” a year of discovery and growth. The focus was simple: give students passionate about individual dance styles a place to meet, move, and groove. By October 5, 2020, Dynamic was ready for its first big step: a dance workshop in a cozy gym in Delft Tanthof. That date became an unofficial-official milestone—our founding day!

Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, the Dynamic community grew fast, reaching 100 members by the end of the year. Enthusiastic teachers joined the crew, and partnerships began forming. A highlight of the year was the collaboration with Cultuurlab, a venue in the heart of Delft that hosted our first outdoor and indoor classes. Starting in April 2021, multiple-class courses in Cultuurlab’s courtyard brought new energy and excitement to the association.

These successes gave us not just financial stability but also the confidence to take the next big step. In June 2021, Dynamic officially registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK), cementing our place in Delft’s vibrant student life.
